In class we have been working on a replica of a rocket engine. Since some people in our class is working on making rockets and later they will make an actual regular sized one. Its important to get practice and precise information. The periodic table is a table of elements that the world consist of. The periodic tables connects to this engine because of the chemicals we used to get the fuse to work accurately and for the chemicals to burn slowly, for example it helps be able to know or get a better prediction as to how to elements will work when they get combined together.
The reaction we were looking for was for the solid fuel in the rocket to start burning slowly and thats exactly what happened.
What does this project consist of?
1.We started by mixing sorbitol and potassium nitrate, and putting this mixture on a hotplate
tip- when mixing these two ingredients you need to make sure that you remove it from the hot plate before it turns brown because that means that its already burning on its own and you are risking a explosion.
2. after that we had to poor the liquid into the pvc pipe and allowed that to try with the end tape
tips - when applying liquid into the pvc pipe you need to be quick because once it drys you cannot re-heat it.
-Make sure the tape is secure so liquid won't come out and burn you and so you could have as much of the mixture you can
3. later we pour cement onto the top of the sorbitol and potassium nitrate so that we could later drill a hole and stick in the fuse
-The hole in the cement was for the pressure in there to come out and release pressure
The reason why we were expecting the air to come out from the top was for the pressure to come out from the bottom to allow the "rocket" to shoot up in the opposite way. That is why the rocket was faced upside down. After we set the fuse on fire, we were able to hear the pressure that came from the pipe slowly and it got faster at a constant speed going up.
