Introduction of my beautiful rock!
This piece of jewelry that you see above is a rock that was handcrafted in the shape called the tear drop shape. It took a total of 3 days to cut, shape and mold this rock and get it to the beautiful and unique shape that it is.
This is a Rhodochrosite rock. Originally this rock that I got my chunk from was already in a smooth plate looking thing. From there I cut it in a small square and began to grind the edges and round one side until all the edges are gone.
Something that I learned from this project is a unique hand movement that helps to shape my rock into the tear drop shape that I wanted. Since the diamond grinder is spinning fast and the grip on it is pretty tough you need to make sure to be quick and efficient or else some of your nail will get filed off and you won't get a precise, clean shape.
Once I was satisfied with my rock shape, I began the first step of the polishing process. There is a total of 3 wheels that you need to use to get that perfect shine. Since this was a very popular project in my class, the equipment was occupied most of the time so I wasn't able to get it the one last final polish wheel in. For the most part this is way more improved then how it started.
When I first got it, it had a coat of cloudy, dusty powder but once I started to grind and polish its flaws, it began to shine beautifully.
Since this rock is hard to get sometimes especially with the unique color scheme that it has I could sell this for about $40 just for this little piece of rock. Here is a link to a website were they actually sell jewelry made out of Rhodochrosite.

What is Rhodochrosite?
This rock is made from a mineral that consist of manganese carbonate. Manganese carbonate produces the pink, brown, and gray color but Rhodochrosite the mineral/gem could also be found in hot pink and hot red. As you could see mine consisted of grey, pink, and white, but each rock could be different.
These rocks could be found in many different places now but they originated in the silver mines in Romania since these crystals only grow in very low temperature, but the Rhodochrosite in Romania are typically solid red or solid pink. The layered rocks come from the mines in Argentina, called "Mina Capillitas." This rock is often confused with silicate and rhodonite but this rock is more softer and gentle than the other ones.
