In this lab we made atomic structures using gumdrops, toothpicks, and raisins. This project was completed by my group, Meghan, Darcy, Olivia, and I. In this lab I learned a lot because it was different to actually see the structures in person. I learned that some of the structures are all actually the same even though they are different objects (which is why you will see some of the same structures twice) I noticed that same thing when we were doing the smelling experiment because though the items/smells were different the atomic structures were very similar. I also learned that in between each atom there is a double bond. Which made things more complicated but its ok.
In conclusion I think that the molecular shapes could be tricky but when you think about the symbols (initials)for each different thing, it begins to make sense. WARNING: Before you start to read this (Andrew) be sure to have a tissue box with you! ..Enjoy(:
This year has been a very big learning experience and in my opinion a very successful year. I have proved to myself that I can do anything as long as a put my mind and time to it. Ive learned that once I go through something tough there is always room for improvement. If it weren't for Andrews long talks about life and becoming responsible adults I would have never experienced and actually understood the true meaning of no limits to continuing to strive. One significant thing that always replays in my head is that no matter the results of something, it will always be a learning experience just as long as you put your time and effort to it. Just in case I haven't answered the first question correctly, something Ive learned about myself as a learner is that I am able to accomplish anything just as long as I believe in myself, because I need to believe in myself before I relay on others to do so. I think that my curiosity has led me to choose the projects that I have. If it weren't for it then I'm not exactly sure how I would feel towards everything Ive done in this class. The fact that we had the freedom of choosing our projects makes me feel very lucky to have a teacher like Andrew because if it weren't for the freedom he offered to the class then the projects would not have been as awesome as they came out. Freedom in chemistry (or in any class) is understanding that each student learns differently and allowing them to experience, struggle, and succeed in their own ways to become a successful individual. Over all I am very impressed myself, because I overcame somethings that I was going through and I never thought I would be doing this well in school. I went beyond my goals for this year and I happy to know that teachers like Andrew exist because I was able to find more of myself and grow into a stronger young lady that I am. Even though Andrew talks A LOOOOOOOOOOT, I will still miss his long talks about ANYTHING and EVERYTHING and his awkward dad jokes. We've come a long way. So long dude ✌️✌️✌️✌️
